Vera Lee Smylie Lucus, 92, of McCamey, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the McCamey Hospital
Graveside services will be held at 10am on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey with Minister James Johnston officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Vera was born on September 19, 1921, in Spearman, Texas. She graduated High School in Hollis, Oklahoma in 1940. Vera married Jesse Earl Smylie on November 27, 1946, in Tucumcari, NM. She was a homemaker and a longtime resident of McCamey. Vera was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margie Nell Smylie in 1951; a brother, Glen Johnston in 1960; her first husband Jesse Earl Smylie in 1985; a grandson, Steven Smylie in 2003; and her husband Adrian Ace Lucus in 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Walter Jack Smylie and his wife Rae of Brownwood, and Edward Lee Smylie and his wife Nancy of Cloudcroft, NM; one sister, Lois McNeil and a sister-in-law, Glenna Burns, both of Lubbock;
Four grandsons,
Eddie Lee Smylie of Farmington, NM, Michael Wayne Smylie of New Braunfels,
Timothy Dale Smylie of Burleson, and David Ramsey Smylie of Andrews;
Nine great grandchildren,
Dylan Smylie of Andrews, Casandra Pacheco of Fort Worth, Courtney Padilla of Farmington, NM, Casi Smylie of Lubbock, Allison Smylie and Emily Smylie both of New Braunfels, Addison Smylie of Andrews, Alyssa Smylie and Hanna Smylie both of Burleson;
Four great-great grandchildren,
Camden Padilla of Farmington, NM, Austin Blue Smylie of Andrews, Ayden Pacheco and Aubriee Pacheco, both of Fort Worth.
