TOOKEY PRESLAR
CRANE: Tookey Preslar, 96 of Crane, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 in the Crane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Crane County Cemetery with Reverend Blaine Wimberly officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Tookey was born on April 3, 1914 in Taylor County, Texas to James and Lou Howland Preslar. In his early 20's, Tookey was employed by the C.C.C. where he drove a bulldozer and cleaned trees for road construction. Tookey was a man of many talents. He played the fiddle by ear, and played in several area bands in his younger days. He played semi-pro baseball for Gulf Oil in the late 1930's and early 1940's as a pitcher. He and his brother as well as other business men originated and coached pony league baseball.
Tookey was a roustabout supervisor for Gulf Oil, as well as the owner and operator of Preslar Food Center, the Crane Ice House, and had worked as a butcher in several area grocery stores before his retirement. Tookey had lived in Crane for over 60 years, and was known as a "Die Hard Democrat". He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Crane. Tookey was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Wiseman Preslar on July 19, 1988; as well as seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Patsy Young and her husband Wayne of Odessa; 2 grandsons, Patrick Wayne Young and his wife Kristi, and Layne Preslar Young and his wife Kristi, all of Odessa; and 4 great-grandchildren, Savannah Kate Young, Brock Patrick Young, Peyton Layne Young, and Parker Edwards Young, all of Odessa.
