THOMAS HENRY HILL
Heaven became a little more colorful on December 15, 2010 when Thomas Henry Hill passed away peacefully in Iraan, Texas. Graveside services will be held at the Sheffield Cemetery on Saturday, December 18th at 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Tom was born May 5th, 1932 in Ozona, Texas to Claude and Evalena Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother Billy Gene Hill and a younger brother Claude L. "Tooter" Hill. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Johnnye Ruth, daughter Pamilena Garrett of Midland, son Michael Wayne Hill of Iraan, and daughter Billye Ruth "B.R." Williamson and husband Joe of Midland. Also a very special cousin Sonnie Hill of San Miguel de Allende, many nieces, nephews and 8 grandchildren.
"Oscar," as he was known endearingly by many, was raised on the Longfellow ranch in Terrell County and graduated from Sanderson High School in 1950. In 1952, Tom was drafted into the United States Army. He attended Basic Training at Camp Chaffee Arkansas along with his life-long friend, Cy Banner. He was deployed to Korea for 1 year 4 months and 4 days and returned stateside at the Port of Seattle Washington. He received an Honorable Discharge on September 30, 1960.
Tom ranched and raised livestock in Upton, Pecos, Crockett, Sutton, and Terrell counties for the remainder of his life. He loved Rodeo and was a member of the PRCA in the 1950's and loved participating in his favorite events, bareback riding and bull riding. Making people laugh, usually at himself, was a goal of Tom's everyday. This goal was completed by becoming an accomplished storyteller with a captive audience of all ages and walks of life.
A special thanks to the staff at Iraan General Hospital, Dr. David Harvey of San Angelo, Dr. Marcus Simms of Ozona and Lorena Ramirez.
Immediately following the service at the Sheffield Cemetery, the family will receive friends at the Sheffield Community Center. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
