RUBYE MAE DAVIS

IRAAN: Rubye Mae Davis, 89 of Iraan, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in the Crockett County Care Center in Ozona.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the Mother Holmes Memorial Baptist Church in Sheffield. Burial will follow in the Sheffield Cemetery with arrangements under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Rubye was born on December 15, 1920 in Anson, Texas. She married R. G. Davis on August 11, 1940 in Snyder, Texas. They raised their three daughters in Monahans and moved to Iraan in 1979. Rubye was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Monahans; the Southside Baptist Church in Monahans; First Baptist Church in Iraan; and currently the Mother Holmes Baptist Church in Sheffield. Rubye was a homemaker and taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She was famous for her great cooking; and was an excellent seamstress, and talented artist. Rubye was active in PTA; and had served as past Matron of the Eastern Star. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, mamaw, sister, and friend. Rubye will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Rubye was preceded in death by her husband, R. G. Davis on July 18, 2009; her parents, Isaac Andrew Jackson King, and Nina Pearl James King; two brothers, Milton King and Leland King; and two sisters, Elizabeth Morton, and Johnnie Tollison.

Rubye lived a life that taught us of God's never-ending unconditional love. Those left to cherish her memory and pass on the values she imparted are her three daughters, Judy Smith, and Brenda Pitts and her husband Don, all of Sheffield, TX, and Gay Brooks and her husband Sandy of Iraan, TX; 6 grandchildren, Curtis Smith of Sheffield, TX, Hal Smith and his wife Linda of Scottsdale, AZ, Scott Pitts and his wife Sherri, Randy Pitts and his wife Kim, all of Artesia, NM, Ben Brooks of San Angelo, and Betsy Brooks of Midland, TX; 7 great-grandchildren, Lucas Smith and his wife Amy, Pennie Hooker and her husband Nick, all of Jacksonville, TX, Natalie Smith of Scottsdale, AZ, Ashley Pitts, Meagan Cornil and her husband Nathan, Jacob Pitts, and Jennifer Pitts, all of Artesia, NM; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Hooker, and Braden Hooker, both of Jacksonville, TX.
She is also survived by two sisters, Lois Noble of Largo FL, and Viola Stahl of Abilene, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
