Ruby Mae Ellis Cass, 93, of Crane passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the McCamey Convalescent Center.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the funeral home from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Jonathan Young and Wayne Keller officiating.
Ruby was born on May 20, 1923, in Eldorado, Texas to parents Benjamin and Bertie Ellis.
She worked at the Houston Shipyard during WWII as a welder on Liberty Ships.
Ruby married Lewis Cass, Sr. on December 3, 1949, in Midland, Texas. They moved to Crane in 1967. Ruby was a homemaker, a Cub Scout Den Mother when her boys were young, and an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Crane. Ruby was a loving caregiver for her granddaughters before they began school.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; a son, Joel Lynn Cass; her parents; 4 sisters; and 3 brothers.
Survivors include her son, Bill Cass and his wife Paula of Crane; a daughter-in-law, Joann Cass of Austin; two granddaughters, Gigi Young and her husband Jonathan of Nampa, Idaho, and Nancy Bruno and her husband Nathan of Springboro, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Natalie Young, Jack Young, and Wade Young, all of Nampa, Idaho.
