Rubio Flores Zarate

Rubio Flores Zarate Sr. age 89 of McCamey, Texas, was called home to be with our Lord and savior on August 30, 2023. 

He was born on April 7, 1934, to Pablo and Siria Zarate in Cuevitas, Texas. He married the love of his life Victorina Montes in McCamey, Texas on September 1, 1956, where they have shared 67 years together full of happiness and laughter. Rubio was a very hardworking man who enjoyed spending lots of his time outdoors, and never went a day without sharing the love for our lord by praying for 1 hour and 30 minutes a day. He was an oilfield worker for 40+ years where he served as a lease operator, pumper, and several other positions until he retired. Upon his retirement, he loved to spend time outside doing yard work and feeding the neighborhood cats, which soon then ended up claiming his house as their own. Rubio loved to crack jokes and had a persistent smile that lit up any room. “Era una sonrisa andante. “(He was a walking smile)

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Siria Zarate. His siblings, Aurora Flores, Ricardo Zarate, and Fernando Zarate Sr. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Victorina Zarate. Their 4 sons, Ramiro Zarate, Rubio Zarate Jr, Ray Zarate and wife Monica, and Roman Zarate and wife Alma. Their 8 grandchildren, Andre, April, Anthony, Mercedes, Jordan, Hillarie, Aylin, and Madison. And 13 great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers are Anthony Zarate, Jordan Zarate, Luis “Bubba” Lopez, Nelson Bermudez, Luis Carrillo, and Marcos Arenivar. Honorary pallbearers are Gabriel Ortiz, Trinidad Montes, and Bobby Acosta. 

Viewing with family will be held at 10:00 am, with rosary to follow on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 7:00 pm at Shaffer Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey, Texas. Funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, September 4, 2023, at 11:00 am, with graveside service to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey, Texas.
