Ruben M. Heredia, 71, of Crane, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the Crane Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Ruben was born on August 18, 1948, in Fort Stockton, Texas. He proudly served in the US Army, being honorably discharged in April of 1969.
Ruben had lived in Crane most of his life and had worked in the oilfield. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Ruben loved his Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. His love for baseball began when he started playing at an early age. Ruben’s favorite place to go for a hamburger was Howards Restaurant in Crane where he enjoyed spending time with the employees and enjoying his coffee or tea.
Ruben had a special fondness for sweets and his sisters made sure he had his favorite deserts.
Ruben was preceded in death by his mother, Jesusita (Jessie) Heredia; sister, Betty Moreno Heredia; and two nephews, Paul Lujan and Joseph Tavarez.
Survivors include his father, Julian Heredia of Crane; sisters, Ema Rey and husband Junior of Monahans, Gloria Lujan and husband Ruben of San Angelo, Delia Mendez and husband Al of Odessa, Linda Ray of Crane, Dora Cadena of Odessa, JoAnn Mireles and husband Margil of Crane, and Sophia Franco and husband Rudy of Fort Stockton; brother, Robert Heredia of Dallas; 21 nieces and nephews; 35 great nieces and nephews; and one great great niece.
Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Crane County Cemetery with arrangements under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
