Roy H. Zarate, 55, of McCamey, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7pm on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in McCamey. Funeral Mass will be held at 2pm on Monday, December 23, 2013, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCamey with Father Laurent Mvondo officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery with arrangements under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Roy was born on January 2, 1958, in McCamey. He was a longtime resident of McCamey, and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved being with his grandchildren, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florinda Zarate in August of 2009; and his parents Jose and Delfina Zarate.
Survivors include his daughters, Adelaida Lopez of Midland, and Amanda Zarate of San Antonio; two sisters, Carol Black and Linda Shankle, both of McCamey; brother Tom Zarate of Midland; two step brothers, Leroy Montez of Odessa, and Fred Montez of Midland; 5 grandchildren, Mark Zarate, Miranda Lopez, Ivelisse Lopez, John John Zarate, and Dericka Zarate; and numerous nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Kim Black of Midland.
