Robert Eaves

Robert Eaves died, April 20, 2015, as he lived with calmness, dignity and on his own terms. He was born to Melba and Lucian Eaves on July 16, 1931 in Alpine, Texas and grew up in Big Bend National Park. After graduating from Alpine High School he attended Sul Ross University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. He later attended the University of Texas where he worked on his Master's Degree in Geology in 1954.

Robert worked for 20 years with the Department of Defense and NASA holding such positions as: Chief Engineer at the Missions Control Center at Cape Kennedy, Manager of Overseas Tracking Stations in the West Indies, Bermuda and Guam, and Deputy Director of NASA Testing and Training Facility, Goddard, Maryland. After Robert retired from NASA he and his wife, Laura, returned to manage the Amacker Ranch in Rankin, Texas. They have managed the ranch for the past 40 years. During his time as a rancher he served as President of the Upton County Water Board and received the Conservation Rancher Award from the Middle Concho Soil and Water Conservation District.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Laura Amacker Eaves, his two daughters, Janet Stinus and husband, Joe of Austin, Texas; Carolyn Pearson and husband, Craig of Crane, Texas. Other survivors include 4 grandchildren: Justin Stinus, Jaclin Stinus, Chelsea Pearson, and Clayton Pearson and wife, Carla Pearson. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn Eaves, of Midland, Texas.

At Robert's request, there will be no formal funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church in McCamey, Texas on May 23, 2015 at 2:00pm.
