Richard Windham Obituary
Richard Myer Windham of Crane/Pecos, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 02, 2023, after defeating stomach cancer and a courageous battle with pneumonia.
Richard was born in El Paso, Texas, on June 28, 1936, to Marshall & Burna Lee Windham. He attended school into the eleventh grade, then entered the workforce until he entered the National Guard from 1956 to 1959. On February 14, 1959, he married Patty Bratcher in Barstow, Texas. They had three children: Ricky (03/11/1960), Josie (08/10/1962), and Tracy (03/22/1968).
Richard loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and he knew God was in control and that He had him in the palm of His hand. Richard was involved in his church, West Park Baptist Church, in Pecos, Texas. He enjoyed caring for the church grounds, the Trans Pecos Bank property, and many private lawns in Pecos.
Richard’s career was working in the grocery store business. Josie and Ricky worked for several years for Richard, and he instilled a strong work ethic in them both. He helped Tracy in his oilfield endeavors, and whatever we needed, he was there.
Richard loved to joke around and enjoyed watching the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He also enjoyed coaching boy’s baseball and women’s softball, road trips, and visiting Ricky and his family in Las Vegas, Nevada. Richard loved his family.
His wife, Patty Windham, his parents, Marshall & Burna Lee Windham, a sister, Jean Freeman, and brothers Hovis and Jackie Windham preceded Richard in death.
Richard is survived by his children Josie, Tracy, and Ricky, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Sue Carnard and brother Sonny Windham.
Richard had expressed that while battling stomach cancer, he was extremely grateful to Sue and Louie Carnard, Sonny and Vicki Windham, and Shane and Nicole Windham.
