RAYMOND WEATHERBY

2/07/28 - 3/13/15
Remembering the Life, Death, and Legacy of Our Beloved
Father, Husband, Brother, Poppa, Friend, Teacher, and Leader.
Raymond Weatherby, of Crane, Texas passed away from this
world to paradise, Friday, March 13, 2015 in his home from a
multitude of illnesses.
He was born in Ivan, Tx. in Stephens County. The
family moved to Crane from Iraan in 1942. Raymond
continued school and graduated from Crane High School.
During this time he also met Dixie Shaver and married in1949.
He was a butcher and working in a food store. While
working an older colleague asked him to run for Crane Constable
and from those words of encouragement he began a new frontier.
Two years and then asked to run for Crane County Sheriff.

He got himself a new Stetson Hat... and a pair of boots! Raymond
became the believed second youngest Sheriff in Texas. Not only the Sheriff but Tax Assessor-Collector a combined job of the times.
He ran in 1956 on the Democratic ticket and won.
Serving the Public was Raymond's ideal job. He also was a member
of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Lions Club, 4-H Leader, Sheriff's
Association, and President of the Chuckles Gang.
He was an advocate of taking the Crane Football, Band, and volleyball
buses to their events. He was a servant through and through, drawn
to political life to make a difference for the residents in Crane County.
Raymond enjoyed fishing, hunting, auctions, football, and dancing
the jitter-bug with Dixie, and enjoying His ( Mother's, Vivian), ( Rosie's, his sister), and Dixie's great cooking!
He so loved his family and he had a Heart as big as the sky for people
in need. His personality was Gold and He will be so missed!
Raymond retired in 1992, and would have ran another time if the family did not insist. 36 Years of service and second longest running
Sheriff in his time in Texas.
His grown children remember Raymond saying after he retired... he had had a Great Job... that he would have never traded for any other. He said, in no other job does one have both freedom and obligation to solve problems and help people on a daily basis. Raymond stated that many a person has told him just how much they appreciated his help in whatever situation they we're in. I have had some to tell me I helped change their life from going down the wrong roads and what better compliment can one hear.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Joe D. and Vivian Weatherby; brothers, Jessie Weatherby, Big Joe Weatherby,
Grandchildren, Tracy and Wesley Phelps and his wife Dixie Weatherby.
