RAY TARPLEY
CRANE: Ray Tarpley, 65 of Crane, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 in Odessa from a short battle with cancer. He was lovingly taken care of by the staff at the Home Hospice House in Odessa.
Ray was born on November 30, 1944 in Bonham, Texas. He married the love of his life Doris Myers on October 3, 1963. He was a longtime resident of Crane. Ray had worked for the City of Crane, and was the water superintendent for the city before his retirement after 25 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Ray Tarpley in 1986; and his mother, Jewell Christine Jones Tarpley in 2004.
Ray is survived by his wife Doris Tarpley of Crane; two sons, Brian Tarpley and his wife Dianne of Odessa, and Dwayne Tarpley and his wife Shirley of Crane; two daughters, Linda Whiddon and her husband Keith, and Betty Keck all of Crane; his brother, Eugene Tarpley and his wife Gail of McCamey; 20 grandchildren, Brad, Tim, Darren, Valerie, Dacy, Christopher,Winston, Desaray, Maranda, Chelsea, Howard, Kristopher, Lauren, Alaynah, Bobby, Vincent, James, Justin, Stephanie, and Ray Lynn; 8 great-grandchildren plus 2 on the way.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Crane with Pastor Ellis Lane officiating.
Burial will follow in the Crane County Cemetery with arrangements under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, food offerings, and presence during this most difficult time.
