Rae Nell Conner (Tooke)

Rae Nell was born April 25, 1940, to Goldie Arlandies and Helen Elizabeth (Bromley) Tooke in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas.

Rae Nell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years Therman E. Conner, of Ft. Stockton; children Carie Ann and husband Carl Svajda of College Station, TX., Gary Don Conner and wife Paula Jean Kley-Conner of Pecos, TX.; Grandchildren: Megan Svajda-Hardy, Melinda Svajda-Winkler and husband Jonathan David Winkler, Conner Andrew Svajda, Cooper Anderson Svajda and wife Mary Elizabeth Svajda, Leland David Conner and Helen Rashelle Conner; Great-grandchildren: Grayson Elizabeth Hardy and Levi August Winkler. Rae Nell is also survived by her sister Shirley Means and husband Buddy Means, brothers Dexter Keith Tooke and wife Joni, and Joe Alan Tooke and wife Shirlee along with numerous nieces, nephews, and children whom she cherished.

She was welcomed into the glory of Heaven by her father G. A. Tooke, mother Helen Elizabeth Bromley Tooke, brother Vernon David Tooke, sister Helen Aletha Tooke Walls, and many other family and friends.

Rae Nell Tooke and Therman E. Conner were united in marriage on December 21, 1960, at First Baptist Church chapel in Crane, Texas. They began their lives together in Ft. Stockton, Texas, and continued to live there for 60 years. Rae Nell and Therman taught and retired teaching with Ft. Stockton Independent School District. She taught as Title I Reading Teacher’s Aide in reading classrooms from 1972 through 1995 on campuses Butz Elementary, Alamo Elementary, Comanche Elementary, and Middle School in Ft. Stockton. Rae Nell and Therman were members of First Baptist Church in Ft. Stockton.

After retiring, Rae Nell taught herself the use of computers and electronic tablets on which she enjoyed spending many hours researching and recording family history, writing family biographies and true short stories. Rae Nell was 80 years old.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020 at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane, TX. Due to Covid-19, services will be limited to family only. They wish to extend their appreciation for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
