Norma Jean Akeman, 76, of Rankin, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Rankin Cemetery with Terry Loehman officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Norma was born on March 17, 1940, in Tuscola, Texas. She was a resident of Rankin since 1985. She attended the Methodist Church where she worked at the nursery and also cleaned the church. She was a babysitter for many years. Norma loved her grandchildren and family and spending time with them was her everything. Norma was a basketball and volleyball star in high school.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Lottie Dean; two brothers, Vaden Dean and Jimmy Dean; and a sister, Luda Prinze.
Norma is survived by her husband Willard Akeman, Sr. of Rankin; son, Willard Akeman and wife Sylvia of Ozona; daughters, Laurie Kindrick and husband Randy of San Angelo, Sherry Walker and husband Johnny of Eldorado; brother, Johnny Dean of Midland and Winfred Dean of Odessa; sisters, Shirley Hayden of Anchorage, Alaska and Sue Raper of Lawn, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and one on the way.
