Maria Acosta Vargas went to our heavenly Father, surrounded by her children, brothers, sister, and numerous grandchildren on Wednesday, May 13, 2015

Mass will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015, at 2:00 PM at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Crane with Father Laurent Mvondo officiating. Burial will follow in the Tamerisk Cemetery in Grandfalls. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.

Maria was born on October 12, 1938, in Grandfalls, Texas. She loved being around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Maria also loved to brag about her brothers, sister, nephews, and nieces. She especially enjoyed a visit from her best friends (Minga) and (Rosie) to discuss their daily soap operas, talk about family, or just check in on one another. When you ran into her in town, she always had a smile for everyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, parents, brother, and sister.

Maria is survived by seven sons, Mike Vargas of Big Lake, Arturo Vargas of Big Lake, Ray Vargas of Midland, Manuel Vargas of Brenham, Baltazar Vargas Jr. of Crane, Edward Vargas of San Diego, and Rudy Vargas of Big Lake; eight daughters, Amelia Carrasco of Odessa, Linda Garcia of Bay City, Karen Holguin of Odessa, Rachel Stewart of Bowie, Laurie Zapata of Big Lake, Ester Lopez of Crane, Rebecca Vargas of Lubbock, and JoAnna Elizono of Midland; a sister, Rosa Olivas of Odessa; two brothers, Max Acosta of Monahans, and Israel Acosta of Louisville; numerous grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
