Manley Lewis Holmes, known to his friends as âBuddyâ, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 13, 2018, at the age of 77. Manley was born on May 24, 1941, in Iraan, Texas to local ranchers, Millard Merrell (Tom) and Kathleen Winona Holmes.
On February 9, 1970, Manley married the love of his life, Julia Mae Brazee. Together, they shared 48 wonderful years of friendship and marriage.
In 1964, Manley enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard and served honorably as a medical corpsman until 1970. After that, Manley served 40 years in the education field, teaching, coaching and as principal, impacting the lives of many children, primarily in Sanderson and Ozona.
Manley loved the Lord, and enjoyed his ranching activities on the Pecos River. He also loved 4-H, FFA, and BSA youth organizations, cooking authentically on his 100 year old chuckwagon, and cowboy and western swing music.
Manley was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Winona Holmes; brother, Richard Lackey; sister, Betty Alldredge; and grandson, Zachery Wayne Rankin.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Mae Holmes; son, Hal Rankin and wife Tammy of Kermit; son Wayne Holmes and wife Carrie of Iraan; daughter, LaSonja Hildebrand of San Angelo; his grandchildren, Cody Rankin of Monahans, Lane Smith of Kermit, Shane Holmes and wife Audrey of Sanderson, Travis Holmes and wife Kelsie of Canyon; Kayla Nunez and husband Nikko of Austin, Sean Hildebrand and wife Rebecca of Midland, and Tristen Hildebrand and wife Isabel of San Angelo; brother, Tommy Joe Holmes and wife Margaret of Iraan; and 4 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at the Sheffield Cemetery with Jerry Davenport officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
