Luis F. Valenzuela Sr., 83 of McCamey, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the McCamey Hospital.
Rosary was said at 7PM on Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in McCamey. Funeral Mass was held at 10AM on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCamey with Father Laurent Mvondo officiating. Burial followed in the Resthaven Cemetery. Pallbearers were Omar Venegas, Ray Zamora, Leonard Carrasco, David Valenzuela Jr., Luis (Trey) Valenzuela III, and Diego Valenzuela.
Luis was born on December 31, 1927 in Veribest, Texas. He married Eva Gonzales on August 22, 1948 in Fort Stockton, Texas. He had lived in McCamey since 1955. Luis had worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years before his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and he was a Cursillista. Luis was preceded in death by his parents, Primotivo and Jesusita Valenzuela; and a son-in-law, Oscar Venegas.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Valenzuela of McCamey; two sons, Luis Valenzuela Jr. and his wife Teresa, and David Valenzuela and his fiancé Laura all of McCamey; two daughters, Olga Venegas of Odessa, and Rachel Carrasco and her husband Saul of San Angelo; 11 grandchildren, Dionne, Omar, Ray, Ruby, Leonard, David Jr., Odelia, Ashley, Luis III, Diego, and Reaghan; and 10 great grandchildren, Adrich, Devyn, Genesis, Abigial, Jolie, Zadyn, Romyn, John Luke, Brooklyn, and Abrianna.
