Lowell T. "Dusty" Rhodes went home to be with the Lord November 21, 2012. He was born August 25, 1937 in Wink, Texas to Mart and Marie Rhodes. The family moved to McCamey, TX in the summer of 1952 where he graduated from McCamey High School in 1955. He played football and track and set district records in pole vault. He also won recognition in mathematics. "Dusty" was married to LaDonna Jo Anderson on June 11, ¬¬¬¬¬ 1960 in Carlsbad, NM.

He began his oilfield career in Bakersfield, TX at the young age of fourteen years, tailing rods on a pulling unit during summers. After graduation "Dusty" joined the U.S. Navy and served in electronics aboard a destroyer from 1955 to 1959. Working in the oilfield he later became a tool man with Schlumberger, Baker Oil Tools, and others, moving up to work as a tool consultant in Texas, Oklahoma, and California. He quit work in 1988, relocated back in McCamey to be near his aging parents, and continued doing consultant work on a part-time basis.

"Dusty" was a man's man, and knew instinctively what needed to be done in most situations, and how to solve problems. He was also a raconteur, regaling his listeners with many anecdotes from his own personal oilfield experiences.

"Dusty" loved to fish, and spent many vacations fishing with Bruce and Becky White in Broaddus, TX and Zavalla, TX. He also loved spending Friday nights with his sisters and brothers-in-law, visiting and eating brownies and ice cream.
