G.L. LEE SHIPMAN
McCAMEY: Longtime McCamey resident G.L. (Lee) Shipman, 91, passed away Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 in Stephenville.
Funeral services will be held at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home chapel in McCamey on Saturday, October 18th at 2:00 pm with graveside service to follow.
Lee was born in Floydada, Texas on May 27th, 1917 to George and Bertie (Holland) Shipman. He and his family moved to McCamey in 1929 with Lee and his brothers working at various times for John Frierson's grocery store. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and retired from the Gulf Oil Company after 38 years of service.
Lee was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lois (Bennett) Shipman, and he was the last of the five Shipman offspring, being also preceded in death by Beulah (Shipman) Zoller, Jimmy Shipman, Bruce Shipman, and Ruth (Shipman) Hatley.
He is survived by his son Mark and his wife Cindy of Stephenville; three granddaughters, Keri Jo Brooks and her husband Rookie of Stephenville; Loren Bell and her husband Jimmy, also of Stephenville; and Stacey Polk and her husband Jeremy of Haslett; and five great grandchildren.
