Leandro Zapata, 81, of Iraan, Texas passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, in McCamey, Texas.
Mr. Zapata was born December 10, 1940, in San Carlos, Coahuila, Mexico, and moved to Iraan, Texas in 1974. Mr. Zapata was in the oilfield and natural gas industry, retiring in 2000 from Marathon Oil company. He loved supporting the Iraan Braves, listening and dancing to music, and was a pro at gardening. Leandro was also a very devoted husband, father and “Wello”! He was an “outdoors” kind of person who again loved gardening, playing golf, fishing and hunting. Mr. Zapata was a very loving and giving person and will be missed by everyone!
Leandro is survived by his loving wife of 50+ years, Mary, and children, Robert & Laura Zapata of San Antonio; Ray and Tammy Zapata of Iraan; and Yolanda & Rodolfo Navarette of Odessa; brothers, Mr. Guadalupe & Ludevina Zapata of Del Rio; Mr. Francisco & Santiaga Zapata of San Carlos, Coahuila, Mexico; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Mr. Zapata was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leandro Zapata, Sr, brother, Ceasar Zapata, sister, Lucinda (Martinez) Zapata, son Leandro Zapata III of San Carlos, and Grand Daughter Victoria Najar, Ozona, TX.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his life in a special Mass and Rosary service starting at 10:00 am Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Iraan Catholic Church in Iraan, Texas. A social gathering and dinner will be held immediately afterward at the Iraan Civic Center.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, our family respectfully invites your presence, prayers and sharing of memories of our father at this service. Cards and/or Donations will be accepted on his behalf for our family and may be mailed to P.O. Box 6, Iraan, TX 79744. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at the McCamey Convalescent Center and Iraan General Hospital for their care and support of Mr. Zapata.
