Lawton M. Sides, 87, of McCamey, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.
Graveside services will be held at 11am on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey with Reverend Ken Houston officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Lawton was born on September 11, 1925 in South Bend, Texas. Lawton served in three branches of our Military: The Naval Air Corp (now known as the Air Force), the Army, and the Marines. He served in WWII in the South Pacific. Lawton was as a postal worker in McCamey and later became the Post Master. He was a member of the McCamey Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, and was a member of the East Side Baptist Church. Lawton was honored in February of 2013 to be the recipient of the Pioneer of the Year Award. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 50 years, Monica.
He is survived by his wife Rose of McCamey; his sons, Marvin Sides of Odessa, and Kevin Sides of San Angelo; a sister, Johnnie May Atkins of Prescott, AZ; and numerous cousins that were embraced as siblings.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veterans, or the local food bank.
