Joyce Marie Williams

Born September 19, 1953 to Jimmy Lee and Bucilla Abron in Crane Texas. Joyce attended grade school at Crane Bethune School later transferring to Crane Middle School. She graduated from Crane High School with the class of 1972. After high school, she attended Sul Ross University in Alpine Texas. 

Joyce later joined her siblings in Houston Texas where she became a proud mother to her son Sean Abron in May of 1975. In the late 80’s she would marry her husband Lewis Williams in Kermit Texas. 

Joyce soon returned to Crane where she joined the Crane Police Department team as a Jailer. She would hold this title for many years. When she left CPD Joyce decided to further her education in the judicial field as she became a paralegal. But that would not keep her for long. She had such a passion for working with the police department so she returned to her position as a Jailer for Kermit Police Department. She retired from KPD and focused on being a full time grandmother. 

Throughout her life, Joyce was very committed and active in the Church. One of her callings was in the Music Ministry where she played the piano and sang. She had a passion for learning and teaching the word of God. She worked diligently with the youth departments where she taught in BTU and the Baptist Congress Association. As the President of the Mission Department in Kermit, she lead woman to Christ and helped them fulfill their talents or find their calling within the church community. Joyce would come to hold many other titles over the course of her ministries such as heading the Pastor’s Aide Committee at her final church home, Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Crane.

Joyce was known in her family and among the community as a kind hearted, God fearing woman who loved to joke and have a good time. 

She is survived by her son Sean Abron I (Crane), granddaughter Alexandria Abron and husband Christopher Thirdkill (Crane), grandsons Sean Abron II and Dejuan Abron (Odessa), great grandson Adonis Thirdkill, great granddaughters Persephone and Venus Thirdkill. Brother Jimmy Abron (Houston), sisters Dorothy Brown (Crane) and Carol Davis (Austin). She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. 

Joyce was greeted in heaven by husband Lewis Williams, father Jimmy Lee Abron, mother Bucilla Bowens, stepfather Rev. H.A. Bowens, and sisters Patsy and Dianna Abron. 

Celebration of life services were held on Friday, October 25th at 11:00am at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Crane.
