Jessie James Kennedy, 85, of Crane, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013, at his home.
Jessie was born on June 2, 1928, to Elias Bolton and Jessie Colder Kennedy in McCulloch County, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; 20 brothers and sisters; his wife, Lou Ann Tarpley Kennedy; a son, Michael Kennedy; step son, Chuck Chambers; granddaughter, Shelly Kennedy; step grandson, David "D.L." Hensley.
Jessie worked in the oilfield for most of his life in McCamey and Crane. He was a truck driver and pumper. He was a member of the East Side Baptist Church in McCamey, and taught Sunday school for a few years.
He is survived by one son, Ralph Randel "Randy" Kennedy and wife Tara; 3 step daughters, Ester Vassos Wilson, Vickie Vassos Rogers, and Terry Allmon all of Crane; 2 step sons, Guy and David Chambers of Odessa; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013, at 4PM at the First United Methodist Church in Crane. Burial will follow in the Crane County Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Allmon, Doug Woodfin, Mark Woodfin, Kim Harrelson, Tyler Woodfin, and Jake Crain. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Crain, Wayne Smith, James Trimble, Jimmy Kennedy, B.F. Kennedy, Danny Kennedy, and Robert Kennedy.
