James William "Bill" Dawson, 71, of Crane, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Services will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in Crane.
Bill was born on November 30, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio. Bill's career life was in law enforcement. When he moved to Texas and worked for the La Marque Police Department; served in Hondo as a peace officer; served as an officer for the Alpine Police Department; the McLennan County Sheriff's office; and moved to Crane in 1997 to work for the Crane County Sheriff's office, where he retired in 2003, making Crane his home.
Bill loved photography, taking many pictures for various programs, activities, and newspaper articles. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and drinking coffee with his friends at the drug store. Bill was a member of the Crane County Historical Commission. He was named Crane's Citizen of the Year in March of 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Gladys King Dawson; and a brother, Bruce H. Dawson.
He is survived by his son, Joe Aldredge of Englewood, Ohio; a brother, Thomas K. Dawson of Maumee, Ohio; a sister, Kathleen Marie Dawson, of Englewood, Ohio; one granddaughter, Niamh Aldredge of Englewood, Ohio; niece, Michelle R. Dawson of Baltimore, Maryland; a nephew, Brian W. Dawson, of Charlottesville, Virginia; one great nephew; and one great niece.
