Jake Avila

On September 29, 2015, Jacobo “Jake” Avila Jr., 61, of McCamey, TX entered into the presence of His Loving Heavenly Father surrounded by his family and friends. He was born June 9, 1954 in McCamey, TX to Jacobo and Manuela Avila. He married the love of his life Angelica Juarez on July 20, 1974 in McCamey, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Guadalupe “Wally” Avila. He is survived by his wife, Angie Avila; his sisters, Alicia Deleon and her husband Roy, Nora Ponce and her husband Manuel, Carmen Avila and Gil, Isabel Ford and her husband, Mike; brothers, Everardo Fuentes and his wife Lupe, Noa Avila and his wife Jane, all of Hobbs, NM and Jake Calanche of Tucson, AZ; children Marivel Ortiz and husband Christopher, James Avila, and Gabriel Avila and Rachel. In addition, he has 3 grandsons and 7 granddaughters.

In 1977, Jake gave his life to the Lord and served Him faithfully until the end. He was a member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista El Buen Pastor and was very active in his church and community. His occupation was that of Lease Operator. However, Jake enjoyed serving others and quietly worked to help meet other’s needs without recognition. He was currently serving his second term on the McCamey Hospital Board. Jake was the first member of his family to attend an institution of higher education and graduated from Texas State Technical College in 2001 with an HVAC license. He was a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, nephew and friend. Jake will be sorely missed by his family and community.

Viewing for Jake will begin on Wednesday, September 30th at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey, TX. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 1st at 7 pm. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am, on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in McCamey, TX, with Rev. Robert Ochoa and Genovebo Juarez, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at the Crane County Cemetery following the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Okin and the McCamey Hospital nurses for their compassionate care of Jake. They would also like to thank their friends and family for their continued support and prayers, and share these final words of comfort:
