HUBERT BRITTON ADAMS
McCAMEY: Hubert Britton Adams was born on March 16, 1924 in Sipe Springs, TX to William
Scott and Nora Dugan Adams. He passed away on December 27, 2009 in the McCamey Hospital.
Hubert served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the 11th Airborne as a paratrooper. He earned a Purple Heart for injuries he received in Luzon during the liberation of the Philippines. He also received 3 Bronze Stars, a Bronze Arrowhead, and a Distinguished Unit Badge.
He married Mary Francis Fenwick on June 23, 1946 in Cross Plains, TX. They moved to McCamey in 1946 where they raised their two children, Shelia and Leslie. He partnered with Curtis Thomas as owner and operators of Diamond Gas Company. They were in business for more than 20 years.
Hubert loved to hunt and fish. He played golf every day until his health prevented it. His favorite pass time was whittling and spending time with his great grandchildren.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Doyle, Edward, and Gerald; one sister, Merlene; and his daughter, Shelia Blanscet; and a grandson, Jason Adams. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Deanne Adams, and son-in-law, James Blanscet, all of McCamey. Hubert is also survived by a sister, Maxine Dollar of Brookshire, TX; three grandchildren, Dawn Fay, Rob Adams, and his wife Pam, and Christy Maynard, all of McCamey. He was blessed with 11 great grandchildren, and numerous other extended family and friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in McCamey with Reverend Ted Creech officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be George Berry, Wayne Smith, Bill Long, Coy Lynch, Jim Foust, and Marvin King.
