Reverend Bowens was a WWII Veteran where he served in the U.S. Navy. He attended Butler College and Bishop College and earned his Doctrine through correspondence courses.

Reverend Bowens came to Crane in 1950. He was ordained into the ministry in 1953, after which he pastored several churches: Bethlehem in Fort Stockton, Texas, Mt. The last church that he pastored was Faith Missionary Baptist church in Kermit, Texas.

Reverend Bowens was a God fearing man and a devoted servant of the Lord and of man. If anyone ever needed any type of help he was there whether it was praying for or visiting the sick, comforting the bereaved, or chauffeuring people from point “A” to point “B”. He helped whenever and wherever he was needed. Reverend Bowens repaired homes for anyone needing help; no job was ever too much for him to tackle. He loved people and had compassion for them.

He lived by Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in the Lord with all of thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
