HOWARD WAYNE FLOYD
SEAGRAVES: Howard Wayne Floyd was born April 28, 1943 in Wellman, Texas to Howard Edwin Floyd and Lucille Elizabeth Benham Floyd. He was raised in Seagraves, Texas where he graduated from Seagraves High School in 1962 and attended South Plains College and the University of Texas Arlington. He received a Class B Waste and Water Works Certificate from the Texas Water Commission and was employed with the City of Odessa from 1968-1977 and with the City of Iraan from 1977 until his retirement in 1999.
Howard served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968, stationed in Korea and the Far East. He was a specialist 5th class attached to the 7th Armored Infantry Division where he was an instructor. He married Linda Gail Taylor on April 11, 1965 in Seagraves, Texas. Their son, Howard "Brent" Floyd was born December 17, 1970.
Howard was known for his kindness and care of many elderly residents in Iraan throughout his working years. He was summoned many nights for "visitation" rather than faulty plumbing and non-working utilities. He was also a talented artist and excited many an niece, nephew, and grandchild with his drawing of cartoon characters.
Howard's greatest love besides his wife Linda and son Brent and daughter-in-law Tiffany are his three grandchildren, known to them as "Granddaddy" - Jake, Dylan, and Ava. His face lit up like a Christmas Tree at the mention of their names.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Lucille Floyd. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Linda of Iraan, TX; his son Brent and daughter-in-law Tiffany; three grandchildren, Jakob Walker, Dylan James, and Ava Grace all of Midland, TX; four sisters and brothers-in-laws, Sue Currie and husband Ben, Valta Martin and husband Troy of Seagraves, Texas, Jean Lowry and husband Loy of Pico Rivera, CA, and Betty Stewart of San Antonio; one brother Lucky Floyd and his wife Pam of Dallas; sister-in-law, Carolyn Brewer and husband Bobby of Brownfield, brother-in-law Tommy Taylor and wife Frankie of Odessa; and many, many, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A special thanks to the doctors and nurses at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston; Iraan General Hospital in Iraan; Medical Center Hospital; and Home Hospice House in Odessa.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Seagraves with Reverend Mike Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Seagraves Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
