HORACE R. POOLE
CRANE: Horace R. Poole, 93 of Odessa and formerly of Crane, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Parks Methodist Retirement Village.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Crane County Cemetery with Minister Mike Smith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
Mr. Poole was born on July 16, 1915 in Palestine, Texas. He married Mary Jones in August of 1941. He was a longtime resident of Crane. Horace was a member of the Mary Street Church of Christ in Crane, and a member of the Crescent Park Church of Christ while living in Odessa. Horace worked for Tidewater Oil for three years as a contract employee, prior to working full time in August of 1936. He retired as a superintendent with Getty Oil in December of 1983 with 50 years of service with the same company. Horace served on the Permian Basin Oil Show Board of Directors; and was always proud that he was a part of the oilfield. He was an active supporter of the 4-H Club; a member of the Crane Noon Lions; and served on the Crane Hospital Board.
Horace is survived by his wife, Mary Poole of Odessa; a daughter, Linda Lively of Odessa; a son, Ron Poole of Roseburg, OR; a brother, Clyde Poole of Palestine, TX; and two sisters, Oleta Lewis of Houma, LA, and Doris Fay Lucas of Houston, TX; 4 Grandchildren, Mike Lively of Odessa, Mark Poole and his wife Sarah of Lafayette, CA, Melisa Olson and her husband Michael of Roseburg, OR, and Matt Poole and his wife Colleen of Portland, OR; and 8 Great-Grandchildren, Sean Lively, Zachary Lively, and Ashley Lively, all of Odessa, Julia Poole, and Austin Poole, both of Lafayette, CA, Marina Olson, Daniel Olson, and Jackson Olson, all of Portland, OR.
