Harley H. âSandyâ Brooks, Jr., 60, of Iraan, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014, in Del Rio, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Iraan Civic Center with Reverend Mike Wright officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Harley H. âSandyâ Brooks, Jr., was born on May 11, 1953 to Harley and Clemmie Dell Brooks in Iraan, Texas. He graduated from Iraan High School in 1972. He attended Howard Payne where he played college football and then Tarleton State University.
He met and married the love of his life, Gay Davis Brooks on December 27th, 1975. They were blessed with a son, Ben Brandon Brooks; a daughter, Betsy Jo Brooks.
Sandy was a certified peace officer for Pecos County as a constable and deputy sheriff. He was employed by Marathon Oil Company for 25 years before his retirement. He then continued his career in safety and was a construction superintendent at various oilfield companies. He was a talented musician and excellent campfire cook. He loved hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He loved life and all the people he ever met. People were drawn to his charisma and his larger than life personality. He was known for his kindness, giving heart, and sense of humor.
Sandy is survived by his loving wife, Gay Brooks of Iraan; his son Ben Brooks and his wife Sara of San Angelo; his daughter, Betsy Brooks Faris and her husband Bob of Midland; his grandson, Brooks Randall Faris of Midland; a brother, Scott Steenson and his wife Sherri of Fairview, Texas; a sister, Janet Caldwell and her husband Don of Brownwood, Texas; and many precious nephews, and other family members and more great friends than anyone can count.
