Gussie Lee Brown, passed away on July 14, 2024, at his home in Big Spring, Texas. He was born to Gus and Lenora Brown on October 28, 1936, in McCamey, Texas. Gussie was the second of eleven children born of their union.
Gussie was a graduate of Dunbar High School, in McCamey, Texas.
On June 7, 1974, Gussie married his beloved wife Leatrice Lampkin, and they built a life together in Big Spring for the past 50 years.
In December of 2013, Gussie retired from the City of Big Spring after 24 years of service. During his retirement he enjoyed gardening and took pride in his yardwork.
His story telling and joyful spirit extended beyond his family. Gussie was well-known and loved by his friends and colleagues.
Gussie is preceded in death by his father, Gus Brown, mother, Lenora Brown; Sister Wanda Brown; Brothers Jessie Brown, Samuel Brown and Larry Brown. Children Joey Brown, Gussie Brown, Jr. and Deloris Brown.
Gussie is survived by his devoted wife Leatrice of Big Spring; his children, Bonnie Brown (Randy) and Charles Brown (Cynthia) of Los Angeles, California; Sisters Rosie Bend and Marian Brown of McCamey; Brothers HM Brown (Yolanda) of Lamesa; Curtis Brown (Mae) of Midland; Ronald Brown and Wesley Brown of McCamey and a host of grandchildren nieces and nephews.
Services to honor Gussie’s life will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home and Chapel, 1000 FM 1901, McCamey, Texas. Interment will follow at The Garden of Memories Cemetery.
