Gordon D. Morgan

Gordon D. Morgan, 82, of Crane, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, February 6, 2015.
He was born December 4, 1932 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Raymond and Goldie Mae (Morris) Morgan. Gordon graduated from Wetumka High School in 1951 and soon after, came to Crane to visit his sister for the summer. It was a visit that lasted 64 years. On November 30, 1952, Gordon married Peggy E. Ward. They spent the majority of their 44 wonderful years of marriage in Crane, raising two sons, Tony and Trey. Gordon spent two years of active duty in the United States Army, serving as a demolition expert in the 350th Infantry Regiment from 1953-1955. He worked as a plant operator for El Paso Natural Gas Company for 32 years. Gordon was very active in the Crane 4-H Club for many years and after retirement, took up the game of golf. This became a true passion of his. He “piddled” around with various jobs to occupy his time after retirement, but will always be remembered as the man who could fix anyone’s golf cart. He loved sports and could always be found at the Crane Golden Crane athletic events with first his sons, and later his precious grandchildren. He was their #1 fan. Years after the passing of Peggy, Gordon married Louise Mathis. They spent 13 happy years together before her death in 2011. Gordon was a loving husband, devoted dad, and proud “Papa”. He loved the community of Crane and was in his element when he could swap stories with his buddies at the coffee shop and golf course. Whether he was in jeans and a cowboy hat or shorts and a golf cap, he always greeted you with a smile and had a tale to share. He will truly be missed by so many.
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Peggy, second wife Louise, grandson Trey Gordon Morgan, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.
Gordon is survived by his sons, Tony Morgan and wife Darcey, of Weatherford, and Trey Morgan and wife Shelli, of Crane; grandchildren Tobie Morgan-Havard, Amanda Morgan, Robert Morgan, Kaylee Morgan, and Jake Morgan. Also surviving are his great grandchildren, JaCi Havard and Sean McAllister, and great great grandchild, Treylee Morgan. He has one surviving sister, Wanda Swain.
A viewing with the family will take place at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane on Tuesday, February 10th, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be at the Crane County Cemetery on Wednesday, February 11, at 10:00 a.m. with Tommy Parker officiating.
