Gloria Ovella Odom Calderazzo was born on May 3,1939 to Arbie Lee Odom and Jessie Mae Tunnell Odom. She passed away peacefully on Saturday November 11, 2023 in Annapolis Maryland.
Gloria attended Roscoe Schools as a child and graduated from Iraan High School. She then went on to continue her education at Sul Ross University and received another degree at University of Texas at El Paso. She started her teaching career of more than 35 years in El Paso, Texas. She moved to the Baltimore Maryland area and taught everything from Science to History but her most favorite subject was physical education. She is well known for her Coaching skills in the Annapolis area. Gloria coached High School Volleyball for 25 years and won numerous awards. Her high school girls teams won numerous awards and state championships as well. She finished her teaching career in Arnold Maryland teaching girls Jr. High School sports. Many a story was told about her experiences and the triumphs of teaching. Her students were blessed to have such a compassionate teacher and roll model.
Aunt Gloria was a much loved aunt by her 3 nieces and 1 nephew. She would come to Texas every year at Christmas time. Her family couldn't wait to see her and start all the fun Christmas activities such as making fudge, peanut brittle, martha washington balls. Decorating Christmas cookies and making Mincemeat pies and fruit cakes. If we were lucky maybe she would help us bake a caramel pie or cake. She will always be known for bringing a wonderful smile to our faces as we cooked new and different foods with her during the holidays.
Gloria loved to sail the Atlantic Ocean with her friends. She would take off in the summertime and travel to the Caribbean. She would sail north to Newfoundland. She loved traveling and went on trips to Europe and Australia.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Arbie Lee Odom and Jessie Mae Odom and her sister Gladys Odom Johnson and niece Beverly June Johnson. She is survived by her brother-in-law L.M. "Chub" Johnson, her nieces Gayla McDougal and husband Bob McDougal, Pam Leesher and husband Johnny Leesher, nephew David Johnson. She is also survived by great nieces and nephews; Cindi and Nick Stevenson, Candice and Matt Adams, Robert McDougal, Heather and Jonathan McCombs and Matt Leesher. She also has 6 great-great nieces and nephews, Ava 'Lynn McCombs, Slade McCombs, Riley McCombs, Averi Leesher, Kaitlyn Stevenson and Ashlee Stevenson.
