Geraldine (Gerry) McDurmon King, age 90, of Odessa, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the home of her sister, Glenda Armstrong.
Gerry was born on February 4, 1934, to Claude Leon and Nellie Marie McDurmon in Fort Stockton, Texas. She grew up in Imperial, Texas and graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1951. She continued her studies at Sul Ross State University, in Alpine, Texas.
In 1952, Gerry met Lawrence Alonzo King. Upon his return from serving in Korea, they married in 1953 in Alpine, Texas. Gerry and Lawrence have four sons: Richard, Norman, Russell, and Curtis. In 1958, they settled in Odessa, Texas to raise their family. Gerry dedicated her life to a strong marriage and raising responsible hardworking sons in a Christian home. Her lifetime hobby or unpaid endeavors revolved around providing housing, meals, comfort, and protection to those in need. She taught for many years at Mary Moppets and Sherwood Christian Academy. Gerry positively touched the lives of all her students, and she was greatly loved.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lawrence, her sisters, Patsy Six and Marsha McDurmon, and grandson, Trey King.
Gerry is survived by her four sons, her brother, Ronnie McDurmon, and her sister, Glenda Armstrong. She was blessed with 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The Family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Glenda Armstrong and niece Terry McIntyre, for the loving care of our mother.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with services starting at 2:00 p.m. on January 15, 2025, at Northside Baptist Church. Pastor Clydel Chapman will be officiating. The Burial will take place at 4:30 p.m. at Crane Cemetery, under the direction of Nichols Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made at the giver’s discretion to people currently in need, or to a Christian ministry.
Gerry’s most fervent prayer has been answered! She is now with Lawrence and no longer in pain. And the greatest of all, she is now with her Lord and Savior!!
