Garland Bentley Dupriest, 77 of Rankin, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Rankin with Reverend Randy Bush and Reverend Matt Williams officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Atwell Cemetery in Callahan County. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
Garland was born on January 14, 1934 in Pioneer, Texas to Samuel and Ester Duspriest.
Upon graduation from high school, at Cross Plains, Texas, he moved to West Texas and began his life long career in the oilfield for Union Texas Petroleum. He married the love of his life, Elva Nell Rouse on May 30, 1956. They were married for 52 years. Garland was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Rankin, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a devoted friend to many.
Garland leaves behind many lasting memories for his friends and family for his love of laughter, huge heart, and their many fishing trips together.
Garland is survived by his son, Gary Dupriest and his wife Christy of Midland; four grandchildren, Austin Dupriest, Ryan Dupriest and fiancé Megan Irving, Tyler Dupriest, and Kayla Dupriest all of Midland; and one sister, Odell Pemborton of Seattle, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elva Nell Dupriest; one son, Michael Dale Dupriest; four brothers; and one sister.
Memorials can be sent to the First Baptist Church, Rankin; or the Senior Citizens Center of Rankin.
