Fred William Rogge

Fred William Rogge was born in San Antonio Texas to Harold and Irma Rogge on March 15, 1948. Fred and Starlette went to the same school growing up in Bulverde. He was a neighbor and friend of Star’s siblings and at times worked with her brother Bruce hauling hay. Starlette knew from a young age that all she wanted from life was to be married and have children. One day at school, Star saw a group of boys playing basketball and told herself, they looked like movie stars and were out of her reach. Fred was one of those boys. In 1969, at Wurstfest in New Braunfels, Fred came over to hang out with a mutual group of friends and stood next to Star. She decided that if other girls at the fest could put their arms around him, so could she. Star bravely but quietly put her arm around his waist. Immediately, Fred looked down at her and asked her if he could drive her home. They were inseparable since. Starlette said that was one of the bravest moments of her life. Star was the love of his life and he was the love of hers. They spent the next 53 years together.

Fred and Star were married in Wetmore, Texas on April 18, 1970. Soon after, they moved to the mountains of California with their son Bunker. Over the course of the next few years, they had daughters Christy, Alusha, Dana, son Emmett, and daughters Ginger and Farrah. In 1993, they decided to move back from the mountains to their home state to spend more time with their parents and for a time, settled in Boerne Texas, where they had their final child and daughter Holly. Over the years, they moved several times across the Texas hill country. They had many businesses and adventures.

Fred was never one to settle into a 9-5 job. He liked a challenge and was good at anything and everything he set his mind to. He remodeled homes, flipped houses, developed properties, bought and sold subdivisions, owned American Lighting Control, and was also co owner of 3B Productions for a time, which to this day provides lighting and sound for major shows including the UFC and MMA. Fred was a businessman through and through. His final projects were helping Farrah develop MD&F Ventures, LLC. and son in law Russel McKenzie with R&M Completions, Inc. He was most excited about the purchase of an oil well we named Broken Horse LLC. and he couldn’t wait for us to strike big! We are all stilling waiting on that… There was never a deal he didn’t find a way to get if he set his mind to it, just ask his brother Bill.

Fred was a musician. At one point before they were married, he told Star that he could never love her more than his guitar. Star felt relief that his love of guitar was all she had to worry about. He was in multiple bands throughout his life and was an excellent guitarist. For a time, he and Dana, wrote songs, recorded music and played live.

Fred was a jokester, he always brought a smile to the faces of others. When he saw anyone sad, mad, depressed, or upset he would find a way to cheer them up. He was kind and generous.

He was a man of faith and instilled the belief of Jesus Christ and God into the hearts of his children. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1979 and was sealed to his family for time and all eternity. He held the Melchizedek priesthood and among his many callings, he was called to be a member of the 70. He was loved by so many people along the way. He will be missed but he will not be forgotten.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Irma Rogge, and sister Carol Mostch. Fred is survived by his sister Jannette Allen, brother Harold “Bill” Rogge, his wife Starlette, sons Bunker and Emmett, daughters Christy, Alusha, Dana, Ginger, Farrah, and Holly, his 30 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He always said he wanted to be the first to leave this world and on March 31, 2023, his wish was granted. He is with our lord and savior Jesus Christ and will be met again by all his family and friends someday.

We will hold a celebration of life on April 9, 2023 at 4pm at the Rankin Cemetery, all are welcome. Bring a story to tell or a song to sing. Dress casually and remember this is a celebration and “see you later” not a goodbye. A gathering will be held at 711 Francis St. following his service for a slideshow and meal.
