Floyd Eugene Covill, Jr.

Floyd Eugene Covill, Jr, 70, passed peacefully at his home while resting on January 2nd. He was born on December 6, 1954 in Crane, TX to Floyd Covill and Wanda Roach along with his twin sister, Elizabeth Luanne. Other siblings were Norma Jean, William “Willie”, Charles “Charlie”, and Lois.

He graduated from McCamey High School in 1973, and briefly attended Texas Tech briefly before transferring to The University of Texas where he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1977. After graduation from UT he returned to McCamey to work for his father at Red Bluff Lumber Yard which he managed until it’s closing in 1999.

He met his wife Lori Jean Howard, also a McCamey graduate, in 1977 and they married in 1978. Together they had 2 children, Jenny and Trey, and remained in McCamey until they moved to San Angelo in 2003. His ventures while living in San Angelo included business Lunch Stop in the Citel building, working at Home Depot, United Blood Services/ Vitalant, and insurance adjusting around the country after natural disasters.

He was a man of humor and an avid Texas Longhorns fan. He made sure to torment any Aggie he met by putting UT stickers on their vehicles and tossing any Aggie fan gear outside if found in his house. He spent many of his early years on the golf course and found an interest in antique cars in his later years. He enjoyed going to car shows with his wife and son and made many new friends there. He loved animals and had up to 4 pets snuggled up to him at bedtime. He was passionate about politics, guns, sweet tea, whoppers, and providing for his family. In his pockets he always had a pen, his knife, wintergreen lifesavers that he happily shared, and nail clippers, so you were never without when in need. Above all he loved his wife, children, and grandkids which he called “Pop’s Angels”.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lori Covill, daughter Jenny (Stephen) Londerholm, son Trey (Mandy) Covill, grandchildren Zoe, Evey, Kat, Mary, Hallie, and Lane, sisters Luanne Bentley and Lois (John) North, and brother Charlie (Nancy).

Eugene is preceded in death by father Floyd Covill, mother Wanda (Roach) Covill, sister Norma Jean Shellenberger, brother William Bond, cousins Buddy and Mike Hall, and his beloved dog April.
