ERNEST ESPARZA VELASQUEZ
McCamey: Ernest Esparza Velasquez, of McCamey, Texas died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 in the Hospice House in Odessa, Texas after a lengthy illness.
Ernest was born in Crane, Texas on February 10, 1963 to Ernest and Teresa Velasquez.
His wife Laura was the love of his life. His other loves were his five children. He treasured his family dearly. Ernest will be remembered fondly by his friends and family.
Ernest was proud to be a resident of McCamey, Texas. McCamey was his hometown and he was a loyal "Badger".
Ernest coached various sports. He loved working with children. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Texas Tech, and a McCamey Badger fan. One of Ernest's favorite pastimes was playing golf. He served as a School Board Trustee of McCamey ISD from 2005 until his death. This was a passion of his because he loved doing what was best for the children and his community.
Ernest is survived by his wife Laura, five children, Hayley, Abby, Makalya, Austin, and Brandon. Other survivors are his parents Ernest and Teresa Velasquez Sr. of Crane, grandmother Ofelia Velasquez of McCamey, his sister, Annabell and her husband LeRoy Gutierrez of Crane, his brother Tony and wife Monica Velasquez of McCamey, brother Mark and wife Christina Velasquez of Odessa, sister Jennifer and Frankie Orozco of Odessa. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather H.A. Velasquez, Uncle Robert Velasquez and Aunt Florinda Zarate.
The Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, at Shaffer- Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey Texas. Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCamey, Texas with Father Barry McLean officiating. Burial services will be held following the funeral service at Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Billy Garcia, Ben Ferguson, Donny Wiley, Rodger Lozano, Bobby Acosta, Michael Velasquez, Ross Walker, and Noe Marquez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rob Adams, David Adler, Christy Hodges, Salvador Holquin, Oscar Sanchez, Monica Zarate, and Cindy Zuniga.
