Ernest B. Velasquez Sr., 70, of Crane, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013, in Odessa.
Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in Crane. Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Crane with Father Laurent Mvondo officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Ernest was born on November 7, 1942, in Fort Stockton, Texas. He retired from Texaco after 25 years. Ernest and Teresa were married 52 years. He loved his family and friends. Ernest enjoyed watching football, western movies. He liked fishing, and going to chili cook offs.
Ernest was preceded in death by his father, Hermenjildo Velasquez; son, Ernest Velasquez, Jr.; brother, Roberto Velasquez; sister, Florinda Zarate.
Survivors include his wife Teresa Velasquez of Crane; daughters, Anabel Gutierrez and her husband LeRoy, and Jennifer Velasquez all of Crane; sons, Tony Velasquez and his wife Monica of McCamey, and Mark Velasquez and his wife Christina of Odessa; his mother, Ofelia Velasquez of McCamey; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his sisters Lydia Tovar of Crane, Rosaelva Villegas of Odessa, and Eva Marquez of Midland; brother, Oscar Velasquez of Crane.
He is in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, joined with his father, son, brother, & sister, where there is no more pain, tears, or fears.
