Elvin was born November 16, 1944 and was raised in the South Plains of Texas. He was able to build or repair anything. If there wasn't a part or a tool to fit the job he would invent one. He earned his living as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. Elvin moved to Fort Stockton in 1970 and worked as a mechanic at Stockton Ford and for the past 32 years has owned and operated Elvin's Auto Repair. As a sideline to his auto repair business he spent the winters of the past four years running heavy equipment hedging trees for D & H Hedging.
Elvin was a very wise man. His grandchildren and friends very often called him for his knowledge on problems they were having. He may have been the only one who did not recognize his own wisdom.
Elvin loved to hunt and fish. He loved fast cars and adventure, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends visiting and sharing stories.
Elvin was preceded in death by his mother and father, A.L. and Estelle Henderson; brother, Carl Henderson, and a sister, Stella Motes.
Survivors include his wife, Nita Henderson of Fort Stockton; two sons, Joe Henderson and his wife Grace, and Danny Henderson and his wife Brooke all of Fort Stockton; his grandchildren, Jodi, Cody, Vivian, Neil, Steven, James, Zeandra, Trysten, Ethnie, John-Paul, and Chaezell; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister Elizabeth Sharpe, of Fort Stockton; and a brother, Eugene Henderson of Hobbs, NM.
Due to his naturally charitable heart, children were drawn to Elvin. He claimed many children as his grandkids, and loved them as if they were his own.
