Edgar Mitchell Doshier

Edgar Mitchell Doshier was born on a cold, snowy night in a farm house near Wetumka, Oklahoma, on December 29, 1922, to parents Silas Price and Sarah Alabama (née Henderson) Doshier. He was the youngest of eleven children. He graduated High School from Bowlegs, Oklahoma, in December, 1942. On November 30, of that same year, he married his High School sweetheart, Rosalie Villines. His work on earth being done, God called him home on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the age of 90.
While in High School, he became the President of his class and achieved letter-man status in all sports. After High School, he was immediately inducted into the Army during World War II, where he served as a tank commander in the 782 Battalion, participating in the European Theater from the D-Day invasion until the end of the war. After the war, he and Rosalie moved to Frederick, Oklahoma, where he was the Service Manager at Judd Lee Motor Company until the Korean War once again called for his service. After the Korean War, Ed landed a job with Gulf Oil Corporation at a gas plant in Crane, Texas, and he and Rosalie moved there in 1951.
While in Crane, he had two children, was active as a Deacon, Elder, Treasurer and teacher in the Crane Christian Church, he was a Mason, he and Marion Brunette put in the first auto parts store in Crane before selling it to Garl Folis in the early 60's, he was a member of the school board from the early 60's through the mid-70's and he coached many young boys in baseball for 17 years from the late 50's through the early 70's. In addition to all that, he and Rosalie continually opened their home to anyone in need, so they had a lot of "adopted" children.
In 1980, Ed was assigned as the manager of the Shackelford gas plant located near Albany, Texas, where he and Rosalie made their home for the next twenty years. During that time, he was active in the Albany Church of Christ and the Noon Lions Club. After retiring from Gulf in 1986, he occupied his time by being Grandpa to his grandchildren as well as traveling the country with his wife. He and Rosalie returned to Crane in 2000. He became a volunteer fixture in and around the Crane Nursing & Rehab Facility while Rosalie spent the last five years of her life there, and continued that service until a couple of years ago. He remained an avid school sports supporter in both Crane and Albany – attending as many events as he could.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife in 2007, and one great-grandchild, Brooklyn Rae Doshier in 2009. He is survived by his son Tim Doshier and wife Kathy of Kingwood, Texas; daughter Beth Heath and husband Jimmy of Crane, Texas; six grandchildren – Jeff Sparks and wife Sheri of Charlotte, North Carolina, Annabeth Victorick and husband Mike of Kingwood, Texas, Sarah Hunsinger and husband James of Fate, Texas, Patrick Doshier of Houston, Texas, Tyler Heath of Midland, Texas, Christopher Doshier and wife Kathryn of Spring, Texas, and eleven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were his grandsons Patrick, Tyler and Christopher, grandsons-in-law Mike and James, and nephew Mark Villines.
Although he was a decorated war hero, coach, school supporter, community leader and a success in business, he always considered his most important contribution was as a Christian husband and father. His life could be summed up by this quote from Joshua 24:15 – "…as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
