Dustin Irl Johns
December 15, 1985 - February 7, 2011
Dustin Johns was born in Odessa, Texas and grew up in Crane, Texas. He was educated in the Crane Independent School District, graduating in May of 2004. In April of 2006, Dustin chose to enlist in the United States Army, completing his Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in August of 2006. He has been assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas since August of 2006.
Dustin served his country overseas in Iraq from November 2007 to February 2009. During this time, he received several commendations, including the Purple Heart.
Dustin was a warrior with a poet's heart and a soul wounded by the loss of comrades in battle. His choice was to push through the pain, to love more deeply, to bring joy to those who shared his life. He cared deeply for his family and extended that care to his friends and his comrades in arms; always ready to listen, always there to help. He served his country with pride, loved his family with all his heart, and left this world too soon.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Billy Irl and Janie Butler.
Dustin is survived by his son, Jaxon Johns, his mother, Cynthia Johns, his brother, Daniel Johns, his father, Dee Johns, his brothers Jason Johns, Justin Johns, Dustin DeBerry, Casey Johns, his sister, Jaclyn McCabe, and his uncle, Lee Butler.
