Donald Lee âDonâ Pitts went to be with the Lord on March 03, 2015, at the age of 72. He was born in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1942. He married Brenda Sue Davis in 1961 in Monahans, Texas. Don and Brenda lived the early years of their marriage in the Monahans and Odessa, Texas area. In 1975 they moved their family to Sheffield, Texas where they owned and operated several businesses, but most notably a store and gas station later named, âGranddadâs Placeâ. Don served the citizens of Pecos County for several years as the Justice Of The Peace in precinct 6. He retired in July of 2009 due to health issues.
Don is survived by his always loving wife Brenda Pitts, his mother Billie Speegle Pitts-Glass of Odessa, Sister Betty Pitts, Brother Ricky Pitts and wife Patsy, sisters-in-law Judy Smith and Gay Brooks. Two sons, Scott Pitts and wife Sherri of Artesia, NM and Randy Pitts and wife Kim of Artesia, NM. Four Grandchildren, Ashley Pitts and Zachary Stanley, Meagan Cornil and husband Nathan, Jennifer Willhelm and husband Robert, Jake Pitts and wife Tiffany. Don has seven great-grandchildren and one angel great grandbaby . Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends who he loved dearly.
Don was preceded in death by his father Oscar Lee Pitts, step-father Lynn Glass, and Sister Peggy Brown.
Don served his family and his community in a variety of ways over the years, such as through 4-H, FFA, and serving on the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department, and the Sheffield Water and Cemetery boards. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed welding and woodworking. He loved working in his yard and was always working on a project.
Don was of the Baptist faith and served as a Deacon at the Mother Holmes Memorial Baptist Church in Sheffield. Even into his death Don will continue to serve humanity as it was his desire that his body be donated to the Texas Tech Health Science Center for research purposes to hopefully find cures to the various conditions he suffered from.
A Celebration of Donâs life through a Memorial Service will be held at Iraan Baptist Church on March 14, 2015 at 11:00am.
