Clarence Gerald Liles Jr.

March 11, 1927 — October 29, 2010

Clarence Gerald Liles Jr., went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2010. He was 83 years old. "C.G." as he was affectionately known, was residing at the Crane Nursing and Rehabilitation, where he lived for five years.

C.G. was born in Breckenridge, Texas on March 11, 1927, the only son of Suzie Gray Liles and Clarence Gerald Liles Sr. He moved to Crane in 1936 and graduated from Crane High School in 1945.

C.G. was a graduate of Sul Ross State University, where he completed a B.A. in History. He returned to Crane to work for Gulf Oil Corporation/Chevron, and retired after 37 years.

He was an avid sports fan, who was often seen at many Crane sporting events. C.G. was also known as a music lover with an extensive album collection. He spent many hours discussing his passions and drinking coffee with his buddies at Crane Pharmacy.

Even though C.G. was a self-proclaimed bachelor, he chose two families as his own. He was welcomed and loved the Pettit and Murphy families, including their extended families. He never hesitated to say, "These are my two daughters, Deb and Marsha. " He proudly showed photos of all his "great grandchildren," claiming them as his own.

He will surely be missed by all; most especially by those who loved and cared for him while he was a resident at the center.

C.G. was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Gerald Liles Sr. in 1956, and his mother Suzie Gray Liles, in 1970.

The family asks that donations be made to Home Hospice or the West Texas Boys Ranch. They would also like to thank Dr. Gumato, Crane Memorial Hospital, Crane Nursing and Rehab and Home Hospice.

Graveside services were held at 10:00 am on Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Crane County Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Parker officiating. Arrangements were under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
