Charles Royce Sheppard

Charles Royce Sheppard, 88 of Crane, TX. Passed away on February 8, 2024, in Abilene.

Charles was born March 10, 1935, but was reborn into the family of God as a follower of Jesus when he was a boy at a revival meeting in Richland Springs, TX at the Baptist Church there.  He loved Jesus and was a follower of His and led his family to love Jesus too.  Charles served his church family in Crane at the First Baptist Church and taught many children there in Sunday School and church.

Charles worked in the oil fields and then for El Paso Natural Gas Company, where he retired after many years of good times at the Mc El Roy Plant where he lived.

Charles is preceded in death by his mom and dad, Eddie Munsell Sheppard and Beason D. Sheppard, his beloved wife, Mary Chambliss Sheppard and his daughter, Mitzi Lee as well as by his brothers, B.D. “Buck” Sheppard and Larry Dow Sheppard.

He is survived by his daughter, Nikki Lin Sheppard and niece, Jana Sheppard Backfisch who was daily by his side these past few months, nephews, John Mark Shepard, Cody Don Sheppard and Bradley Dean Sheppard.

Visitation will be Monday, February 12, 2024, at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home from 6 pm to 8 pm.  Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church of Crane with Reverend Tommy Parker and Reverend Chris Farrell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Crane County Cemetery.
