Charles G. Rogers

Charles Garth Rogers was taken to be with the Lord Thursday, July 28, 2011.

Funeral services for Charles will be held Monday, August 1st at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Iraan, Texas. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Charles was given by the Lord on August 23, 1922 to Benjamin Carrol Rogers and Sudie Lee Rogers, in Highland Park, Texas.

Charles went to A&M University where he was in the corp. He enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve our country in W.W.II; Charles served in both Germany and Austria Following General Patton's tanks where he received two bronze stars. After his honorable discharge as Staff/Sgt. he returned to A&M and earned his bachelor's degree in animal husbandry. He joined the Air Force Reserves, serving 8 years where he earned the rank of 1st Lt.

Charles met his beautiful bride, Rose Mary Morris, while living in Abilene, Texas. They were married in the Iraan Christian Church on Sept. 3, 1949 and were partners for 61 years.

Charles began teaching High School Algebra I&II and Geometry in Eula, Texas.
Charles and Rose Mary moved to Iraan, Texas in 1957, where he taught in the school system until he retired in 1985. His favorite years teaching were the later where he taught Elementary Science to the 3rd thru 5th grades. He loved his students very much.

Charles was employed every summer with the United States Dept. of Interior as a Protective Ranger and a Naturalist Ranger. He began his career in Yellowstone National Park, and later in Grand Teton National Park. Charles loved the outdoors and spent as much time hiking, fishing and hunting as possible.

Charles and Rose Mary loved their community and helped establish the Iraan Saddle Club and the 4-H, also the Iraan Archaeological Society. Charles spent many hours working on the horse pens and the arena where he taught his children and grand children to ride. He was always eager to help any child in Iraan to learn to ride.

Charles served the Lord for many years as an Elder in the Iraan Christian Church. Charles led us, his family, in faith in God. He taught us the great love God has for us, to love our family and to love and honor our country. Charles preached many sermons, a few from the pulpit but most by the way he lived his life. Charles donated to Gods work, sending his family around the world to more than 35 countries spreading the good news and to supply smuggled Bibles to those without. He has left us with faith and love, these are immeasurable gifts. Daddy will welcome us when we get to Heaven.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Rose Mary Rogers, grandson, Marine LCP Shane Patrick Harris, and a great-grandson Elijah Logan Harris.

He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Lee Harris and her husband Thomas of Woodbury, Tennessee and Carol Ann Harris and her husband Pat of Las Vegas, New Mexico; two brothers, Boyd A Rogers of Abilene, Texas and Stanley Rogers of Vancouver, Washington; four grand-children, Jamy Lindsey and husband Mark of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Logan Harris and wife Rebecca of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Ryan B Harris Of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Tiffany Ann Harris of Las Vegas, New Mexico; 6 great-grand children, Meri Lindsy, Bryce and Brock Lindsey, Caleb Harris, Garrett Harris, and Rachel Harris; and two sister-in-laws Lois Morris of New Braunfels, Texas and Ruby Lee Mitchell of Lubbock, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Guadalupe Christian Camp-56 Christian Camp Road, Carlsbad, Mew Mexico 88220; or the First Baptist Church in Iraan.
