Carolyn Kay (Matlock) Mason, 72, of Crane, stepped into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday afternoon, May 10, 2019, after a brief illness.
Carolyn was born on January 21, 1947, at the Basham Hospital in Eureka, Kansas to Jesse Hubert and Ethel Anna Booth Matlock. She was a graduate of Augusta Senior High School.
Carolyn married her true love, Donald Eugene Mason on July 29, 1967, at the First Church of the Nazarene, in Augusta, KS. She graduated from William Newton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Winfield, KS on June 16, 1968. She experienced various nursing opportunities throughout her career. She retired as Quality Management Patient Safety Officer from the VA Hospital in Big Spring, TX.
Carolyn enjoyed life to the fullest. She was talented in many was such as making baby blankets, poetry, cooking, and singing. Her family was her everything. She loved reunions and taking vacations with family. Most of all, she just loved spending time with her daughters and her grandchildren, they were the apple of her eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Ethel Matlock; brothers, Wesley Matlock, Jessie Matlock, Orville Matlock, Jake Matlock, and Alden Matlock; sisters, Eda Fern Mitchell, and Marilyn Sue Clark; and her husband, Donald Eugene Mason; and her best buddy, her dog Shadow.
She is survived by her children, Kim and Jack Phillips of Odessa; Melissa Thurman of Garland; and Mendy and Kelly Nichols of Crane; brother Delbert Matlock and his wife Shirley of Crane; three sisters, Doris Crowell of Springfield, MO, Ann Garr of Waxahachie, TX, and Betty Griffith of Eureka, KS; her grandchildren, Andrew, Scott, Austin, Jordan, Savannah, Ashleigh, Hannah, Amberleigh, Nick, Sydney, and Jacob; and host of nieces, nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. She will have a visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the Headley Funeral Home in Augusta, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Headley Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to the Make A Wish Foundation.
