Buddy T. Cravens

Buddy T Cravens, 85, of Sheffield, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday,
August 29, 2021.
Buddy was born on January 4, 1936 to Carl Thomas Cravens and Laura Louise Hoover in Bonham, Texas. Buddy was raised in Crockett County on the family ranch that he loved. He is the great-grandson of William Peery & Laura McNutt Hoover - the first ranchers in Crockett County. He attended school in Iraan, Texas until the 9th grade. At the age of 14, Buddy began working on ranches and breaking horses. He worked for Bill Danawho, on an oil rig for Dick Collett, and then went to work for Tom Vanderventer on the Noelke Ranch. In 1960, Buddy was drafted into the army where he served for several years.
Once his army days were over in 1962, he went back to work at the Noelke Ranch and then eventually moved to Andrews, Texas where he went to work for the C Ranch. Buddy met and married his beautiful wife, Anita Louise Fitzgerald Cravens in 1965. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage, working side by side, and raising their boys in Andrews. Buddy worked a combined total of 40 years for Foy Proctor and Melvin Cotton on the historic C Ranch. He cowboyed and worked cattle, while Nita was up before the sun cooking and feeding all the ranch hands.
Buddy retired at age 65 and moved home to Sheffield, Texas in June of 2001. He
lived out the rest of his days surrounded by the family he loved, and working on the ranch that his great grandparents started in the late 1800s.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nita Cravens; His son Mont Clinton Cravens and wife Roxy, and their children, Hayley, Jakelynn, and Canna; his son Buddy Clay Cravens, his wife Jodi, and their children, Rylie and Cade; his other son Wade Purvis & wife Sheridan; his sister Marion Seibel, 82 of Nampa, Idaho; his aunt Jimmie Kate Thomas, 88 of Ozona, Texas; and many cousins and friends.
Buddy Cravens was the epitome of the American West, a man who's handshake was his word and who believed in hard work. When you shook Buddy's hand, you knew you were in the presence of a living legend. He loved his family, his ranch, his livestock, and he really loved a good horse.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Sheffield Cemetery.
