Bubba Kennedy

Bubba Kennedy of Midkiff, Texas, died in the line of duty as a Peace Officer on October 2, 2013 while responding as an Upton County Deputy in McCamey, Texas. Billy Frank Kennedy, Jr., always known as "Bubba" was 37 years old and born on November 27, 1975 in Rankin, Texas. He was employed as a deputy sheriff for 14 years in Pecos, Brown, and Upton Counties. He also was a K-9 handler many of those years and was in progress of training another K-9 at the time of his death. He loved being a peace officer more than anything and was an avid hunter and team roper. During the years, he did oilfield work as well. He looked forward to hunting season every year and competed in many team-ropings including the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

He grew up in Iraan, Texas and met his wife, Jodie while in college. They were married for 17 years and have 2 sons, Lane McClay-15 and Blake Dawson-10. Bubba is also survived by his parents, Billy Frank Sr. and Della Kennedy of McCamey. He has one sister, Cindy Portman and husband, Barry of Midland with nieces & nephews: Morgan, Stephanie, Cole, & Lance. He also has a Mother-In-Law, Caroline Pounds and husband, Moran of Brownwood, and Father-In-Law Ronnie Turner and wife, Sheryl of Brownwood. He has another nephew, Jathan from his Sister-In-Law Jennifer Weaver, and husband Judd of Weatherford. He also has multiple cousins.

He is preceded in death by all four of his grandparents: Everett and Stella Kuykendall, Frank and Midge Kennedy, and a brother Wesley Scott Kennedy all of who were from Crane. He was also preceded by his favorite K-9, Harry.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Park Building in Rankin with Reverend Trey Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Rankin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Jones, Russel Holden, Glen Kelly, Luke Reber, Barry Portman, Cody Sikes, Will Kennedy, and Butch James.

Bubba will be greatly missed by not only his family, but the entire community. He always had a smile and talked to everyone he met. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for our community and he will always be remembered and loved.
