Bonnie Washington

December 16, 1930 — September 8, 2015

Bonnie Mae Lewis was born December 16, 1930 in Whiteface, Texas to Clarence and Iris Lewis. She graduated from Whiteface High School in 1948, where she was an all-state basketball star. She married the love of her life, Archie Conway "George" Washington, on July 26, 1952. Over the course of their married life, they lived in many cities in West Texas and New Mexico before settling in Crane. Being a member of this community for 55 years has given many the opportunity to know and love the beautiful woman that Bonnie was. Bonnie worked several jobs within the community but most notably as a bookkeeper with C.R. Anthony Company.

Her most beloved job, however, was being a mother to her two children, Tommy and Sherri. She was devoted to her children and loved being active in their lives. She volunteered in the P.T.A. while her children were in elementary school from 1960-1965 and again in 1970-1975 . She served on committees while Tommy was in little league and pony league, as well as a band booster and served as secretary for the band booster club. She also was a member of the athletic booster club and you could always find her in the stands or on the sidelines supporting her children.

Bonnie has been a member of the Baptist Church since she was 12 years old. She and her family were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Crane from 1961-1968. Then they joined the First Baptist Church of Crane in 1968 and was still an active member until her death. She taught 9 and 10 year old Sunday school class at Calvary and helped with vacation bible school. After joining First Baptist, she was a helper in the beginners department for four years before joining her adult class. She also was a member of the Crane Rebekah Lodge.

Above all else, Bonnie was a devoted wife of 45 years, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family unconditionally. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Maudene and Mary Lynn), and her adoring husband. She is survived by her son, Tommy Washington of Stephenville and his wife Kristi, her daughter Sherri Cox of Crane and husband Wally, along with her seven grandchildren Marcus Washington, Stephanie Reed, Heather Peeler, Michael Washington, Connor Washington, Daniel Cox, and Lindsey Frymire. She is also blessed with eight great grandchildren: Kaylee Peeler, Paisley Peeler, Avery Washington, Kai Washington, Taylor Reed, Jazmine Reynoso, Braiiden Cox, and Landon Cox. She is also survived by extended family members and a host of loving friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Crane with Reverend David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
